Among the accounts we have come across in the course of this study, two stand out in particular. The first, dating from 1678, is so ambiguous that without knowledge of the traditions and folk beliefs of the time, it would be indecipherable—and to a certain degree it remains so regardless! The second, dating from 1924, is much clearer and for the most part conforms to the idea of the poltergeist as a stone-throwing spirit. In their own way both texts reflect how the described phenomena were perceived, and both texts also have, among other things, the advantage of allowing a glimpse of the assumptions that underlie the mental attitude of their protagonists.
